Dr Simone Beheregaray is a highly accomplished and subspecialty trained ophthalmologist and eye surgeon with expertise and experience across research and clinical practice at a national and international level.
Her subspecialties include refractive cataract surgery and laser vision correction, and the management of corneal and ocular surface diseases with a special interest in keratoconus, corneal cross-linking, and all forms of corneal transplantation for various pathologies.
Originally from South America, Dr Beheregaray’s academic journey began with her outstanding performance at the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, where she completed her medical degree. She later studied ophthalmology and earned recognition as a specialist by the Brazilian Council of Ophthalmology. Dr Beheregaray was awarded the esteemed Monbukagakusho Scholarship, which enabled her to pursue a PhD degree from the University of Tsukuba in Japan. In 2015, she relocated to Australia, where she has since practiced.
Dr. Beheregaray has pursued additional fellowship training across various ophthalmic subspecialties, including Glaucoma, Cornea, Cataract, and Refractive Surgery. She also completed the esteemed Fred Hollows Fellowship at Lions Outback Vision in Western Australia. She has also practiced in regional settings and for a few years provided specialist care to regional patients in Mount Gambier, ensuring this communities access to advanced ophthalmic treatment. This extensive training and experience reflects Dr Beheregaray’s commitment to providing the latest advancements and the very best care to her patients.
Simone consults at several private and public practices, clinics, and hospitals in the greater Adelaide area and rural South Australia, enabling her to provide the best access and services to her patients and referrer network both in terms of location and facilities.
Dr Beheregaray’s knowledge and dedication to her profession is further exemplified by her active involvement with peer-reviewed publications and her public appointment at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. In addition to English, Dr Beheregaray also speaks fluent Portuguese and basic Japanese.
