Nominated on peer voted The Power List in 2023 and 2024 by The Ophthalmologist Magazine in 2023, Dr Ben LaHood is a recognised expert in cataract and refractive surgery and has considerable experience in several other surgical subspecialties.
Dr LaHood studied at the Otago Medical in New Zealand, graduating with distinction. He completed his Postgraduate at the University of Sydney in 2011, awarded with prizes in Ophthalmic anatomy, physiology, and optics and graduating with distinction.
Dr LaHood began a fellowship in Adelaide where he became an authority on astigmatism management, premium IOL implantation and laser vision correction before heading to New Zealand to practice as a specialist ophthalmic surgeon in laser vision correction, refractive and cataract specialties.
He relocated back to Adelaide in 2020 and is now continuing his career consulting privately at Adelaide Eye & Laser Centre and publicly at the Queen Victoria Hospital.
He is committed to education and research and is frequently asked to speak and contribute to ophthalmic topics including cataract and refractive surgery at conferences, publications, podcasts and articles. He also holds the position of Senior Clinical Lecturer at the University of Adelaide and is involved in several other ophthalmic education initiatives.
He actively practices a patient-first focus with a genuine interest in individual patient health and maximising visual outcomes.
